Many projects to come!

We’re starting to get into an HGTV mood.

And no, for those who know me well, I have not been binging on Fixer Upper, I’ve only watched 2 episodes this last week...

We have had so many projects in mind since buying this house—some indoors, some exterior-related. But since Dallin has had so much free time lately, his gears have really started turning. Our “closet” in our room currently consists of two clothing racks against our wall, and we’ve been planning on saving up to buy a fancy closet organization system from Home Depot to install on our wall for a sort of open-concept closet in our room. Unfortunately, with our current financial setbacks, we’ve been delaying that for a bit, and recently one of the hanger racks broke and is currently standing by leaning back against the wall. Not the most functional...

So, Dallin got the idea in his mind for us to just build one ourselves. I was a bit hesitant at first, but finally decided hey, why not? He’s started some rough sketches of plans, and we’re starting to get pretty excited. During the building of this, he also wants to install a shelf along the top of the two adjoining walls for some of our things that are currently being stored on a broken folding table against our opposite wall. So hopefully this will all lead to us finally being able to open some of the windows in our room!
Preliminary closet plans

The door-headboard is still in the works; it’s at my parents house currently as we do not have a garage and my dad owns an electric sander. I finished about half of the sanding while visiting the other day, and should be able to finish it the next time we’re over. After that comes painting and a few more elaborate plans also sketched out by Dallin before installation.

Once we got swept away with these ideas, it was only a matter of time before we started thinking exterior. Even though our backyard is currently only accessible from the outside of our home, we’ve been dreaming about a firepit since we bought the place. Our friend group is a huge fan of bonfires and s’mores and outside parties, and since our house is the new homebase for all get-togethers, it only makes sense to utilize the amount of outdoor space we have. We now have plans to expand the fence in the backyard—there is a great deal of grassy area outside the small fenced-in backyard that makes no sense in being excluded—and installing our own in-ground firepit. I also have ideas for some cute bench seating that should be really nice and fairly easy to build. Begone the days of folding camp chairs around a metal fire pan!

Believe it or not, the list still goes on. Dallin and I and our roommates have also been discussing installing a pegboard on one of the basement walls to hold their outrageous plethora of Nerf guns. Of course, being them, they want to go totally overboard with light bars and frames and crap. Can’t have just any old Nerf gun wall armory. One of our roommates also has big plans for a huge gaming table for our affectionately-named “D&D Room” upstairs, the one with the beautiful ceilings and hardwood floors. We’ve effectively utilized it as a dedicated game room, with two bookshelves filled with board games, card games, puzzles, you name it. It’s been really nice having a whole room for that sort of thing; we’ve been able to just leave games out over a day or two to finish at a later time.

So in all, there will be quite a bit more content to come. With summer coming, this should hopefully take up whatever free time we may have, and I’m definitely excited to share all of our processes! Be on the lookout for HGTV: Historic Ogden!
